Let’s Do “Favorite Picture”

Thursday, February 2nd, 2006

Ok, for the next week, let’s use the theme of Favorite Picture. Reach back into those libraries of yours and find your favorite picture that you have ever taken. It might be nice if you included a short blurb explaining why you like the picture so much and/or a short explanation of what the picture is.

Alternatively, if you choose, you could post a picture that someone else has taken.

Post when ready.

Next Week’s Theme: Entries For The Mirror Project

Thursday, January 26th, 2006

Ok, for the next week, let’s create entries for The Mirror Project. The idea is to get some sort of self portrait using a reflective surface. Plenty of examples can be found on The Mirror Project’s website, and there are a bunch of other rules that they have as far as pictures that are posted.

Personally, I don’t think that we need to obey the other rules (< 30k, < 300px in any dimension, etc). Smaller versions of the pictures can be submitted over there.

Post whenever you’re ready.

Next week’s theme: Two Tone

Thursday, January 5th, 2006

Alright, I’m not sure how many people are still out-of-town or otherwise still waiting to post their pictures from New Year’s Eve. At any rate, the theme for next week will be Two Tone. Post pictures that are only comprised of two colors (Photoshopped or otherwise).

Give people a few more days to post pictures for the New Year’s theme, and then feel free to start up the new thread as soon as you are ready with your Two Tone pictures.

Happy Holidays!

Thursday, December 15th, 2005

It’s a little early, but I wanted to wish everyone Happy Holidays!

I’m leaving town soon and won’t be around all of next week (and most likely won’t have access to a computer), and Barry said that he would be gone for a big portion of it, so we decided against beginning a new thread before Christmas. I mean, we could have chosen a new theme, but I would have felt really badly about starting a new theme and then not participating in it. However, if you have a good idea for a new theme, please feel free to start any new threads that you would like to.

P.S. Brandon and I have started having problems with the RSS feed. For some reason, it’s not updating properly on our computers. I was convinced it wasn’t client-side until just now, when I realized that it *was* and I am an idiot (although I’m still not sure what the solution is). If anyone else has noticed the RSS feed isn’t being updated on your computer, please reply here.

Next week: Smears?

Thursday, November 17th, 2005

Ok, we’ve already had one vote (by Alex) for using Smears as next week’s theme. Smears would be pictures taken with long shutter times to capture motion blur. Barry and I discussed it off-line and we both agreed that would be great for next week. So, I just wanted to let everyone else knew about it so that people have extra time to shoot.

As usual, if you have any ideas for future themes we could use, please feel free to let me know or post them. We’ll make sure they get used.

Post your Fall pictures

Friday, November 11th, 2005

Alright, I think the Vacation Photos theme is winding down. There will probably be a few more posts in that thread, but I think that we should start the Fall theme thread as soon as people are ready for it.

I have been shooting, but I haven’t really gotten anything that I really like that much. I have a feeling that I will end up having to settle for something that I’m not completely happy with, if I don’t get a chance to shoot over the weekend.

Anyway, if any of you are ready with your Fall theme pictures, go ahead and start up a new thread under the This Week’s Theme category.

Upcoming Themes

Thursday, November 3rd, 2005

Ok, while we’re waiting to see if there are going to be any more entries for the current theme, everyone can start thinking about the next one. Next week’s theme will be Your Favorite Vacation Photo. This should be distinguished from Your Favorite Photo, which will probably be used in the future. So, if your favorite is also your favorite from vacations, you can either post the same picture for both themes, or take this opportunity to choose a different one.

Starting tomorrow or Saturday, if you have already selected the picture you want to post, feel free to open up the thread by posting your picture under the This Week’s Theme category.

Two weeks from now, we’ll return to a more abstract theme. At Alex’s suggestion, we’ll use the theme of Fall. I wanted to announce that early so that people have a little extra time to think about what they want to shoot. The obvious focus will be leaves. However, if you would like to challenge yourself, there are a lot of other visuals that can signify Fall (pumpkins, etc).

As usual, feel free to post more than one image for any of the themes. And you don’t necessarily have to take new pictures for any of the themes. Even when we are posting for an abstract theme, feel free to use pictures out of your libraries. If you have ideas for future themes, feel free to email them to me, and I’ll make sure to use them. And if you have interesting pictures you would like the group to see or would like to post in order to get feedback, feel free to post them under the Random Pixelations category, even if they aren’t related to the current theme.

Future Themes

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2005

I have been trying to figure out how we are going to choose themes for future weeks. I think that we are going to try to intersperse abstract themes (like “Vertical Lines”) with other types of themes that are less abstract and more fun to do (like Post a Funny Picture of Yourself).

To keep track of the ideas that we all have for future themes, I have created a page that is linked to off of the main page of this weblog.

If you have ideas for future themes we should use (or feel that one of the themes on the list is something we shouldn’t do), please either email me or leave a comment in this thread. I will keep that list updated. Ideas for themes that are given to us by other participants will probably be given precedence over the ones we have thought of previously.

Welcome!

Wednesday, October 19th, 2005

Hi, all… Welcome to our as-yet-nameless photoblog. Somewhere around here, I’ve posted a help page to help you get started registering accounts under the Wordpress and Coppermine sides. If you permit the site to set cookies for these, you won’t have to log in again later.

Enjoy!
